Planned water supply maintenance for 28 October 2025 to 5 November 2025

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruption. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee all residents will have a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they are able to prepare in the event it does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Part of Silveroaks – Kuils River
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Marais Street, Denne Street, Omega Street, Muller Street, a section of Langverwacht Road and possibly surrounding streets in Silveroaks in Kuils River on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, from 09:00 until 18:00. The work involves connecting the newly installed sections of water pipelines along Langverwacht Road to the existing water supply infrastructure. The area will experience no water during this period.
Part of Wynberg
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in part of Wynberg on Tuesday, 28 October 2025 from 08:00 until 18:00. The work involves connecting the newly installed water pipeline along Cogill Road and Oak Avenue to the existing water supply infrastructure as well as the installation of two valves in Langley Road between Wellington Avenue and Fleming Road. The area affected by the shut-off will be Piers Road, Cogill Road, Oak Avenue, Mortimer Road, Devonshire Road, Langley Road and possibly the surrounds in Wynberg.
Part of Rylands
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has appointed a contractor to conduct a pipe replacement project in Mabel Road and Middel Road, Rylands until 12 December 2025. This may result in brief intermittent flow disruptions on certain days. Construction will be undertaken using pipe cracking technology, which may result in some noise and inconvenience during the course of the works. Normal working hours will be from 08:00 until 17:00, Monday to Friday. Work may also be carried out on weekends and public holidays. Prior notice will be provided when water supply disruptions occur. The water supply to Middel Road, between Duine Street and College Road, and possibly surrounding roads in Rylands will be shut off temporarily from 09:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 28 October 2025. This will enable the contractor to safely install a temporary water supply bypass in Middel Road, between Duine Street and College Road. Residents in these streets will experience no water during this period.
Rosendal, Voorbrug, Leiden and The Hague - Delft
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to a large part of Delft on Tuesday, 28 October 2025 from 09:00 until 13:00. This will enable the maintenance team to repair a leak on the main water supply pipeline to the area. These areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Fish Hoek
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in parts of Fish Hoek on Tuesday, 28 October 2025 from 08:30 until 18:30. The work involves installing two valves at the intersection of Berg Road and Highway Road to the existing water supply infrastructure. The areas affected by the shut-off will be Berg Road, Highway Road and surrounding areas in Fish Hoek.
Dunoon and Part of Killarney Gardens
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Dunoon and part of Killarney Gardens from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, Wednesday, 29 October 2025 and Thursday, 30 October 2025 to do repairs to the leaking 450mm water main supplying these areas. The work is scheduled in this manner due to safety considerations. These areas will experience no water during these periods. The water supply will be restored during the night. Water tankers will be available during the day in Dunoon to provide water for domestic use where required.
Part of Newfields, Hanover Park, Pinati Estate and Athlone Industria
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off of the water supply to these areas on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, from 10:00 until 16:00. Govan Mbeki Road between Becker Road and Heinz Road, Vibra Road and Mahilon Road and possibly surrounds will experience no water. Other parts will experience lower than usual water pressure. This will enable the contractor to continue with work on the 300mm diameter upgrade project along Govan Mbeki Drive in Hanover Park.
Part of Woodstock
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply from Hyde Street to Sir Lowry Road between Searle Street and Russel Street including Chapel Street, Gray Street, St. Phillips Street, Frances Street, Pontac Street, Nelson Street and possibly immediate surrounds on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, from 09:00 until 16:00. This test shut-off aims to determine the impact for the actual shut-off on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 09:00 until 18:00 when a bypass connection will be installed to accommodate the upgrade of the roadways in the area. The area will experience no water during these periods.
Part of Lentegeur and Watergate
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to part of Lentegeur and Watergate on Thursday, 30 October 2025 from 08:00 until 18:00 to accommodate the upgrade of the 300mm diameter water main in Highlands Drive. Candytuft Street and all the roads leading to and from Candytuft Street and possibly immediate surrounds as well as Watergate, will experience low water pressure to no water during these periods. A water tanker will be placed in the area during the shut-off.
Northpine and Scottsdene
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to the reservoirs that supply Northpine and Scottsdene on Saturday, 1 November 2025, from 10:00 until Sunday, 2 November at 10:00, to install two bulk water meters on the pipeline from Wemmershoek. The reservoirs will be filled in advance, but residents are requested to reduce their water consumption during this period.
Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant shutdown
The Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant will be shut off from 08:00 on Monday, 3 November 2025 until 22:00 on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. This will allow for maintenance work to be done to the penstocks of the Low-lift Pump Station . The City reservoirs for the supply areas will be filled in advance. The Drakenstein Municipality and private users along the Voëlvlei pipeline have been informed to fill their reservoirs and make alternate arrangements. Residents and businesses in the Durbanville, Philadelphia, Fisantekraal and Klipheuwel areas are however requested to reduce their water consumption during this period.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.
Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
Wednesday, 29 October 2025, from 09:30 until 16:00: The area bounded by Klipfontein Road, Silverstream Road, Duinefontein Road, and the Railway Line and possibly the immediate surrounds in Manenberg North.
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure-reducing valves for pressure management).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
1. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
2. All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
3. Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
4. For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:
1. Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
2. Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
